NIGHT WALK: STEPS ON THE EDGE OF PARADISE
2016 - 2017
Shot one night in Tokyo and Saitama, Japan, these photographs retrace the route of another walk, another night. Their making is a cathartic act of retrospection, a personal pilgrimage, a reflection on a lost relationship and what could have been. Yet, on another level they suggest a reflection on universal experiences of time and place. An unexpected event, a significant interaction, or a sudden thought can change a place from being merely the mundane setting for an everyday life into a sacred space that transcends its physical manifestation. Such places exist everywhere, different for each person. The act of photography, as a way of looking, provides a means to capture such places and bring forth the symbolism out of the mundane, a means to reflect, and a means to understand.
